Ultherapy is a new type of nonsurgical procedure that uses noninvasive techniques to lift and tighten the skin. Ultherapy projects ultrasound energy below the surface of the skin to create fractionated zones of heating within the SMAS and platysma — areas that are traditionally tightened in a facelift — without harming the outer layers of skin. Improvements include a sleeker, more defined jawline and tighter skin on the neck under the chin. Sagging skin on the cheeks can also be tightened and lifted, which in turn can improve folds from the nose to mouth, folds from the mouth to jaw, and drooping corners of the mouth. Tightening of skin on the forehead can reduce the sagging on the eyelids and promote a more open, refreshed look in general. Our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Lawrence Bass, can also perform Ultherapy on his New York, NY patient's chest area to improve wrinkles around the décolletage. Patients can contact Bass Plastic Surgery to learn more about this FDA-approved wrinkle reduction and skin tightening treatment.
Ultherapy can transform a patient's appearance with no downtime or discomfort after treatment. The best candidates for receiving nonsurgical skin tightening will have:
- Sagging skin around the jawline, jowls, neck, chest and under the chin
- A desire for a nonsurgical procedure that gives natural results
- A desire for a long-term solution
- Don't have enough laxity for a surgical facelift
- Have undergone a surgical facelift and need only minimal re-lifting and re-tightening
"I had a breast reduction with Dr. Bass in July. Everything from the consultation to the follow up appointments to the office staff was wonderful. I'm so pleased with the results and should've done this years ago. Dr. Bass is attentive and very thorough. The office staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. I highly recommend Dr. Bass!!!"- Anonymous / Vitals / Oct 02, 2017

"Great Surgeon for Male Rhinoplasty - Dr. Bass performed my rhinoplasty along with a medically indicated septoplasty. I'm happy with the results, in terms of both look and function (i.e. snoring is cured, breathing noticeably improved).Male rhinoplasty is a difficult procedure to get right; my understanding is that it has a lower patient satisfaction rate than most cosmetic procedures. Thus, it is especially important to find the right surgeon with the knowledge, skill and experience, who can discuss expectations in a clear and honest manner. I fully recommend Dr. Bass.Dr. Bass is very patient and caring, especially for a surgeon of his renown. Pre-operative consultation was very thorough and he was generous with his time. Recovery from any nasal surgery is unpleasant and good post-operative care is important; again, I'm pleased with his & his staff's empathy and responsiveness. Finally, I'm grateful that Dr. Bass was able to accommodate my schedule and coordinate with her colleague Dr. Franziska Huettner (another outstanding surgeon), so I could have multiple procedures with the downtime of one."- A. / RealSelf / Aug 23, 2020

"professionalism personified... - When i was a younger lad, i was involved in a ghastly vehicular accident that led to life threatening injuries upon myself, along with an unfortunate fatality to the soul of another passenger, which casted an unfortunate lumbering energy that will forever encompass that distant night. after surviving the ordeal, i required a vast amount of plastic surgery to ameliorate all the wounds,..."- N. / RealSelf / Jan 24, 2017
What to Expect
As with other ultrasound procedures, a smooth applicator placed upon the patient's skin projects an image onto a screen. This same applicator is then used to deliver focused pulses of ultrasound energy to create fractionated heating at just the right depth below the skin, leaving the surface of the skin undisturbed. The body's automatic response to the energy is to stimulate the growth of new collagen. Comfort levels vary from person to person, but patients do not need anesthesia during the procedure. Most patients will take a pain-relieving tablet in the office before the treatment and describe the sensation as momentary prickling or heat beneath the skin. This is the ultrasound energy being delivered into the tissue, which is how ultherapy lifts and tightens the skin.
The regenerative process is initiated right away, but the full effect will build gradually occur the course of 3 – 4 months. The degree of clinical improvement varies depending on the patient's remodeling capacity, which can not be predicted in advance. Expect modest lifting to be obtained, not comparable to the results of a surgical facelift. This treatment is best suited for patients who do not yet need a surgical facelift or who have had one and only need minimal re-tightening. Another approach is to use annual treatments to maintain appearance before significant amounts of skin laxity show on the face. Typically only 1 or 2 treatments are needed to acquire the desired results.
