About IPL Treatments
For many people, a lifetime in the sun leads to an accumulation of pigmentation, redness, and broken blood vessels on different parts of the body, including the face, hands, back, chest, and neck. Through a simple treatment at Bass Plastic Surgery in New York, NY, this pigment can be destroyed and removed with long-lasting results. Dr. Lawrence Bass, our plastic surgeon, uses the Palomar Starlux 500 system and the Sciton BBL both of which have the power and versatility to treat these conditions on all skin types. IPL (intense pulsed light) works by delivering a pulse of bright light that targets pigment in the skin while leaving non-pigmented cells intact. Pigment is destroyed without damaging the skin itself. We encourage patients who are seeking a more even complexion and healthier skin to contact our office today.
The ideal candidates for an IPL treatment will have:
- Pigmentation issues or vascular issues such as age spots, rosacea, broken blood vessels, and sun damage
- A desire for a noninvasive procedure with no downtime
- Realistic expectations for their outcome

What to Expect
An IPL treatment will be performed at our office as an outpatient treatment using numbing gel applied on the skin's surface. Generally, pigment treatments are performed in a series of 2 – 3 sessions, spaced about 3 – 4 weeks apart. There is mild redness after each treatment, usually for a few days, but the skin is not raw or open. Makeup can be applied right after each session, and patients can resume their normal activities with no downtime.
Some results may be visible after every treatment, but the full results are generally not seen until after all sessions have been completed. The skin should look more even, with fewer dark spots, pigmentation issues, and less redness overall. Results can be long lasting if patients follow a good skincare routine and apply sunscreen before exposure to the sun. Maintenance sessions are generally recommended once or twice every year.
An Even Complexion
Complexion and pigmentation issues can be caused by overexposure to the sun or genetics; they can lead to self-esteem issues and a person to be unhappy with their appearance. A simple series of IPL treatments can help remedy these issues making a dramatic improvement in appearance. Contact our office today to start your treatments.
