About Neck Lifts
Loose skin and sagging around the neck can be caused by age or by substantial weight loss. Our plastic surgeon, Dr. Lawrence Bass, is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and performs a neck lift to restore neck contour and improve the patient's appearance. During a neck lift procedure, Dr. Bass can remove the excess skin and re-suspend the surrounding muscles for a more youthful, firm appearance. At Bass Plastic Surgery, this operation is also commonly combined with liposuction to reduce the fat in the area as well, presenting our New York, NY patients with a fully contoured appearance. If patients are interested in restoring their neck and face, then we invite them to contact one of our offices today for a private consultation.
The best candidates for neck lift surgery:
- Have loose skin in the area caused by aging, weight loss, or genetics
- Are typically from 40 – 70+ years in age
- Desire a sharper, more defined jawline
- Desire a long-term solution
- Desire a natural look

What to Expect
Neck lift surgery is outpatient and performed at one of our offices in the accredited surgical facility. The patient receives anesthesia under the care of an anesthesiologist. Dr. Bass will make incisions under the chin or in front of or behind the patient’s ears. Liposuction will be performed if there is excess fat in the region. The underlying neck muscles will be repaired and re-suspended. Then, excess skin will be trimmed and the remaining skin will be re-draped for a smoother, defined appearance.
Following neck lift surgery, a patient commonly experiences some bruising and swelling in the neck area. It’s also common for patients to have a sensation of tightness and pulling, which is a result of the neck adjusting to the new position. Typically, patients are able to return to routine work and social activities in around 7 – 10 days. After a few months, a patient should be able to see the full effects of the surgery with a smoother, more contoured neck.
